Scarlett Johansson’s Sci-Fi Movie Got A Six Minute Standing Ovation

Scarlett Johansson stars in Wes Anderson's new sci-fi movie "Asteroid City," which received a six-minute standing ovation at Cannes. Set in the 1950s, the film unfolds in a fictional desert town, known for its asteroid landings and quirky inhabitants.

Asteroid City's tourists and Junior Stargazer convention attendees, including a widowed father, gun-wielding grandfather, and actress Scarlett Johansson, find themselves stranded when aliens seemingly make contact. The ensemble cast, featuring Tom Hanks and others, learns to survive together while performing a play narrated by Bryan Cranston.

The film's premiere saw Scarlett Johansson, the director, and cast members, with familiar faces like Tilda Swinton and Jeff Goldblum. Wes Anderson's eleventh film introduces new cast members, including Steve Carell and Margot Robbie, in a tale of survival, camaraderie, and an unexpected play in the desert.

This collaboration marks Scarlett Johansson's first live-action role in a Wes Anderson film, chosen specifically for her part as Midge Campbell. She compares her character to Bette Davis, portraying a martini-swinging actress coping with being stranded in the desert, finding liberation in Wes Anderson's directing style.

Having previously worked on "Isle of Dogs," Scarlett Johansson expresses fascination with her character's identity. Akin to Bette Davis, her role as a famous actress navigating the desert with fellow actors showcases the actress's appreciation for Wes Anderson's unique and liberating directing approach.
